Somehow it’s December 30th, and we move away from our home on January 2nd. Everything is happening so fast! We’ve been trying to visit all of our favorite restaurants – this week we hit Fukumoto, Ah Sing Den, Justine’s, Small Victory, Elizabeth Street Cafe, the patio at Hotel San Jose, and even had snacks at Joann’s, where the manager sent us these delicious chips and guac when she found out we were moving. I am going to miss knowing people every day, and being known.

Yesterday was the first day I felt really, really sad. I didn’t want to pack, didn’t want to leave my family and friends, didn’t want to leave my city. But then we went to our friends’ wedding, and I cried like a baby, and somehow felt a little better. (I always, always cry at weddings.)

Today was another packing day. We ran into our neighbor, Betsy, on our way back up to the apartment with more boxes. She’s offered to help us in any way she can (she’s SO sweet), and tonight she showed up with dinner from the cafe on the corner. HOW AMAZING IS THAT?! She dropped it off and said she didn’t want us to have to worry about food on top of all the packing. I really hope we have neighbors this nice in GVL.

Tomorrow we have a bit of work, and I have to run to Central Market to pick up some of our favorite things to freeze and take with us. Then it’s packing all day until the evening, when we’ll head over to our friends’ place for dinner. We’re planning to close out 2018 at Small Victory, which has become our home base (and the bartenders are like family). I’ll be bringing tissues.
